Weekend tips: 1 day trips from Brașov
The surroundings of Brașov: places of story that you must not miss
Located in one of the most beautiful natural scenery in the country, the gateway to Transylvania is a city that attracts many tourists. Our colleagues from the Cronoscar car rental service in Bucharest confirm that many residents of the capital choose Brașov as a holiday destination in all seasons.
Once you get here and have the rental car available, it would be a pity not to explore other areas that will remain in your memory and in your photo albums on Instagram. Here are just a few recommendations for a weekend getaway.
1. 7 Stairs Canyon
Canyon in Romania? Of course, this is not a formation of the proportions of the well-known Grand Canyon in the United States. But just a few kilometers from Brașov, within the radius of Timișu de Sus, there is a canyon. It is arranged with stairs - hence its name - only that at present there are nine, not seven, for the safety of tourists.
After you book a rental car in Brasov, start on DN1 towards Bucharest and, once you arrive in Timișu de Sus, turn left onto the signposted road. After about 1km, you will encounter a metal barrier. Here you will park your car and continue on the path. The road is signposted with yellow stripes and has several stopping areas arranged if you wish to rest.
2. Rășnov Fortress
A proud fairy-tale fortress, built on the top of a hill, Râșnov is a magnet for tourists from all over the country. Around the citadel, a network of accommodation units and leisure places was developed. Thus, even if you have visited the fortress in the past, you always have something new to discover.
From Brașov, the distance to Râșnov is only 19km, which you will travel in less than half an hour at the wheel of the rental car offered by the Cronoscar office for car rental in Brașov.
3. The Feldioara fortress
Built by the Teutonic knights in the 13th century, the Feldioara Fortress was destroyed by the Tatars in 1241 and rebuilt by Cistercian monks as a Monastery. From the original building, a portion of the wall to the northwest remains today. Archaeologists say that this was just one of the two walls that surrounded the fortress. In the middle was the "knight's house", a chapel and a cellar for supplies.
For hundreds of years, the Feldioara Fortress was just a ruin, but during 2013-2017 it was completely restored and it is worth a visit. To get here from Brasov, you will have to travel only 23km on the E80 by one of our rental cars from the Cronoscar center for car hire in Brasov.
4. The Nature Park complex in Chichiș
It's time for a few hours spent in the middle of nature! In less than an hour by car, in Chichiș village, you will find the largest camping complex in Romania. Natura Park offers accommodation in cottages on the lake or tents, outdoor swimming pools and numerous sports activities, from fishing to tennis and mountain biking.
Natura Park is the ideal choice to spend a few days of entertainment, movement and relaxation away from the city, in a splendid setting. The complex provides you with a dedicated train from Halta Chichiș, but you can also get there by car offered by the Cronoscar center for rent a car in Brașov.
5. Dumbrăvița fishing complex
Nicknamed "Delta of the Carpathians", Dumbrăvița fishing complex is located less than 70km from Brașov. This complex of lakes, ponds, swamps and canals covers 420 acres and is a Ramsar site (after the name of the region in Iran where the convention on wetlands of global importance was signed). This area is also included in the Natura 2000 site program, being in the custody of the Romanian Ornithological Society.
In Dumbrăvița you will be able to admire and take photos of 213 species of birds, throughout the year, of which 196 are protected species. This is the only place in Transylvania where you can see the small cormorant and a few other species that have recently started to nest here: the small egret, the night egret and the yellow egret.
With the car offered by the Cronoscar office for car rental in Brașov you can reach the Dumbrăvița fish complex in about an hour, following the route E68 (30.2 km) and DJ112A (38.6 km).
